VISD hires 82 teachers, promotes within district

The Victoria school district hired 82 new teachers and promoted several positions within the district for the next school year.
Joining the new teachers will be two new principals, six assistant principals, four counselors, a diagnostician, and two school psychologists in the special services area.
The Victoria school board approved the hires at its board meeting Thursday.
Three of the new assistant principals will go to Patti Welder Middle School. Justin Cox, a teacher and coach in Mexia school district; Raul Garza, Jr., a principal in Riviera school district; and, Renee Dawn Maroney, an assistant principal in Edna school district will join the new principal, Richard Wright, at Patti Welder.
Melissa Correl, a counselor in VISD's Career and Technical Education program, will become an assistant principal at West High School. Kristina Hurley, an instructional facilitator in Calhoun County school district, will be the assistant principal at Aloe Elementary School. Justin Gabrysch, a teacher and coach at Patti Welder, will join Cade Middle School as an assistant principal.
Melanie Reed, assistant principal at Rowland Elementary, will be the principal at Chandler Elementary next year.
Mary Noble, assistant principal at O'Connor Elementary, will be the principal at F.W. Gross Elementary.
The board also named the following school counselors and special services personnel Bryanne Hamilton, counselor, Hopkins Academy; Lezlie Price, counselor, Patti Welder Middle School; Sheila Vaz, counselor, F.W. Gross Magnet School; Heather Williams, counselor, Dudley Magnet School; Victoria Cross, diagnostician, Special Services; Jeanette Smith, licensed specialist in school psychology intern, DeLeon Elementary School; Laura Smith, licensed specialist in school psychology, Howell Middle School.
