Helping Hands: Salvation Army

Some familiar faces are in new places at the Salvation Army.
The biggest change that will be noticed by Salvation Army clients is the move of Robert "Doc" Bartlett from shelter director to social services case worker.
After the departure of a long-time case worker, Bartlett agreed to the change to help make the transition as smooth as possible, said commanding officer Maj. Ernest Lozano.
"Doc has a heart for service," Lozano said. "I have been impressed with his concern and compassion for those who are willing to make a change in their lives. Doc is willing to go to whatever lengths are needed to find them assistance."
Since the change took place on Feb. 3, Bartlett has used his knowledge and contacts in the community to make the transition to case worker.
"I am now able to assist more people, all kinds of people," said Bartlett, who was shelter director for about seven years. "We will make every effort to find them help and not let them leave empty handed. If we can't help them directly, we will find them someone who can."
Other changes include thrift store manager Kevin Gibson taking on the additional duties of shelter director.
Richard Head, who has lived in the shelter's transitional housing for about two years, is now the shelter's intake clerk.
At the thrift store, Sandra Pena has joined the staff as a clerk.
Lozano said the staff changes enhance the Salvation Army's mission.
"We want this to be an oasis in the midst of uncertainty," he said.
