Victoria police investigate the scene after an auto-pedestrian accident along Zac Lentz Parkway. An 11-year-old was struck Sunday as he tried to cross parkway just after midnight.

An 11-year-old boy was fighting for his life early Sunday morning after being struck by a vehicle while he was attempting to cross Zac Lentz Parkway.

The accident occurred just after midnight at the westbound on-ramp just west of Navarro Street in Victoria.

Patrol officer Herschel Buck of the Victoria Police Department said the boy was with three adults and was walking from the IHOP restaurant to the Super 8 motel just south of the parkway, or Loop 463.

Buck said the boy was hit by a Chevrolet Tahoe that was accelerating to enter the parkway. The vehicle, driven by 27-year-old Nathan Ancarrow, of Cuero, was moving about 50 mph, Buck said.

Buck said alcohol was not a factor and the Tahoe driver was not at fault.

The boy, whose name was not immediately released, was taken to DeTar Navarro Hospital.
