A 54-year-old Markham man died Thursday morning after an auto-pedestrian accident in the 1000 block of South Wells Street in Edna.

Sylvester Boone was hit by a white 2000 Chevrolet pickup driven by a 43-year-old Edna man at 6:08 a.m. He was trying to cross the street from Gary's Corner Store, Edna Police Chief Clinton Wooldridge said.

"The truck speed was undetermined. I don't believe speed was a factor," Wooldridge said.

The name of the Edna driver was not released by the police chief.

Boone was taken by ambulance to the Jackson County Hospital where he was later pronounced dead by Precinct 1 Justice of the Peace Darren Stancik.

No citations were given, and the fatal accident remains under investigation, Wooldridge said.

Boone's family gathered in his home late Thursday, still struggling to process their loss.

"We have no information right now," said Boone's daughter, Tamika Boone, 36. "Just what everyone is telling us."
