Zumba fans are in luck Friday evening right on the heels of St. Patrick's Day.

Fitness gurus and beginners alike can get into shape while enjoying a cocktail, if they choose.

The Golden Gecko will host its first Zumba in the Club event at 7 p.m. Friday.

Instructor Stephanie Hamilton said the exercise craze is a form of dance. Making the transition from a class to the club is simple.

"There are no mirrors to make you feel self-conscious," she said. "You just get to step."

The SuperBody Works instructor also said she and a handful of others will teach some basic steps in the beginning.

"In a class or two, you'll have it down," said Hamilton, who is a licensed zumba instructor.

The 20-year-fitness veteran, Hamilton, said doing zumba offers great benefits. Participants can burn up to 1,000 calories in one hour.

Jodi Sandoval, one of the club's owners, said she has worked for months to make this event happen.

She added the Golden Gecko can accommodate 200 people and hopes the class will become a regular event.

"I hope it's a place where everyone can come together. It will be something good for Victoria," she said.

Participants can purchase water, Gatorade, and alcoholic beverages at the bar.

Hamilton advised that people drink at their own discretion, and perhaps, even after the 90-minute workout.

Although Hamilton has been a zumba instructor for five years, Friday's event on Forrest Street will be a first for her.

"I'm not sure what to expect, but I am excited," she said.
