Victoria's planning director will soon take the reins as Victoria's next assistant city manager, the city announced Friday morning.
John Kaminski, who has worked as development services director for 14 years, will now work under the direction City Manager Charmelle Garrett to provide administrative support to the city manager and city council, and help manage 12 major city departments, according to a news release.
"John Kaminski worked his way up through the planning department and development services and has done an incredible job as director for the past 14 years," said Garrett in a news release. "He is qualified to transition to a role where he will manage several city departments and his expertise in municipal planning will be vital as city council and city staff plan Victoria's economic growth during the next decade."
Kaminski earned his certification through the American Institute of Certified Planners and has more than 25 years of professional experience, 24 of those years spent with the city.
He began his career with the city in 1988 as a planner I, and was promoted to various positions in the department until he was named planning director in 1997. He has been director since 1997 and remained director after the Planning Department was renamed to Development Services in 2008.
Kaminski graduated magna cum laude from Texas State University with a degree in urban and regional planning.
More than 60 applicants applied for the assistant city manager position, which has a starting annual salary range of $130,000, according to the release.
