Refugio County Fair begins

The Refugio County Fair begins Wednesday with carnival-style food, fun and livestock judging. Double R Barbecue is arranging a 6:30 a.m. breakfast to help start the fair. Food entries are due at the Expo Center on Fairgrounds road at 7 a.m., followed by judging from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The judging is not open to the public.
Also on Wednesday, arts and crafts vendors will open at noon on the fairgrounds, with other drink and food stands opening throughout the day.
Livestock projects will begin checking in at 5 p.m. to be sifted and classified.
The D&C Pride of Texas Shows Carnival opens at 6 p.m. and closes at 10 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday. The carnival is open from 6 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. on Friday, and 1 p.m. to 1 a.m. on Saturday.
On Thursday, the fair opens to the public with the arts and crafts vendors at 8 a.m., with food and beverage stands opening at 11 a.m. Refugio Lions Club Hamburger Stand and Woodsboro Lions Club Drink Stand will serve from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., and 11 a.m.-8 p.m. for Double R Barbecue.
Livestock poultry judging starts Thursday at 10 a.m., followed by Pre-4-H rabbit judging at noon, then market rabbits.
The Expo Center's opening night also begins 5 p.m. Thursday. Lamb judging starts at 5 p.m. Thursday.
Immediately following lamb judging, Pre-4-H goats will be judged, followed by market goats.
On Friday, at 7:30 p.m., the Open Pro Rodeo will commence, featuring Lester Meier Rodeo Co.
The County Fair dance, at Padilla Hall will be from 8 p.m. to 12:30 p.m. and will feature the Scott Taylor Band.
Saturday's Youth Livestock Auction begins at 11 a.m., with a buyers reception in Padilla Hall. The official auction start time begins at 1 p.m. where livestock projects will be auctioned off to the highest buyer.
Other activities on Saturday include a picante sauce contest, a horseshoe pitching tournament, a dance in Padilla Hall featuring Oso Texas, and the Open Pro Rodeo.
