A semi-truck driver was arrested Saturday after striking two trucks from behind on U.S. Highway 59.
Johnny Rodriguez, 56, of Victoria, was driving a semi-truck north on U.S. Highway 59, when he rear-ended a truck stopped at a traffic light at the intersection of U.S. Highway 59 and Farm-to-Market Road 236, Department of Public Safety Trooper Jay Schultz said Sunday.
After striking the pickup and knocking it out of the way, the semi-truck continued forward and struck a second pickup truck, also stopped at the traffic light, Schultz said.
The driver of the first pickup was trapped in his truck until emergency service personnel rescued him. He was taken to a Victoria hospital, Schultz said.
A family of six traveling in the second pickup was not injured, Schultz said.
Schultz did not have the names of the pickup drivers.
Diesel tanks were ruptured during the wreck. Texas Department of Transportation workers and firefighters cleaned the diesel from the road.
Rodriguez was arrested and charged with intoxication assault and reckless driving, Schultz said.
