The inside of the house at 307 Taos Drive is shown after Michael Basaldua, 41, of Victoria, lost control of his vehicle and crashed into it after going through a wooden fence.

Steve Trowbridge was participating in a massacre re-enactment in Goliad when a driver crashed into his Victoria home late Friday night.

"It's probably the first time a massacre ever saved anyone's life," Trowbridge said Sunday while standing inside his damaged house in the Cimarron subdivision.

Trowbridge, 62, was in Goliad participating in the re-enactment of the Goliad Massacre when he received word of the crash.

"The sheriff came to my tent and told me there had been an incident at my house in Victoria," Trowbridge said.

Michael Basaldua, 41, Victoria, was driving east on Airline Road when he lost control of his grey Chevrolet Camaro at 11:51 p.m., said Victoria Police Sgt. Adam Nieto.

The Camaro left the road in the 5000 block of East Airline and crashed through two wooden fences before going through the wall of the home in the 300 block of Taos Drive, Nieto said.

The vehicle went through a neighbor's fence before going through Trowbridge's fence, the French doors and wall along the back side of his house and his living room before damaging one of the interior walls and many of his belongings.

A medical condition may have contributed to Basaldua losing control of his car, Nieto said.

The homeowner said if he had been at home, he probably would have been sitting in one of his living room chairs at the center of the wreck.

His two dogs were home at the time. They were not injured.

Basaldua, who refused medical treatment, was released into the care of his father, Nieto said.

Trowbridge is able to stay in the bedroom of his house while repairs are made to the rest of the house.

"It's just a hole in the wall," he said. "It'll be all right."
