Calhoun's Griffith, Yoakum's Hights win state titles

ABILENE - Calhoun's Brandon Griffith and Yoakum's Willie Hights are coming home from the Abilene Expo Center as state champions.
Griffith and Hights won their respective weight divisions Saturday at the Texas State Powerlifting Association state meet.
Griffith was named the outstanding lifter after setting two state records in the Division I 198-pound class.
Griffith set a state record with a squat of 700 pounds and a state mark with a bench press of 430 pounds.
Griffith, who is committed play football at Lon Morris College, also had a dead lift of 580 pounds for a total lift of 1,710 pounds.
Hights won the Division II super heavyweight class.
Hights had a squat of 800 pounds, a bench press of 475 pounds and a dead lift of 600 pounds for a total of 1,875 pounds.
