UHV gets road win over St. Edward's

AUSTIN - Chad Kruse hit a three-run home run in the top of the first inning and the University of Houston-Victoria went on to a 9-5 win over St. Edward's University on Wednesday at Lucian-Hamilton Field.

Kruse had two hits and four RBIs for the Jaguars, who improved to 9-17.

UHV built an 8-0 lead and pitchers Cory Carter and Tanner Hamilton made it stand up.

Carter worked five innings to pick up the win and Hamilton finished the game to earn the save.

Ryan Suescun and Josh Ledesma each doubled and had an RBI for the Jaguars. Creighton Hoke had a hit, an RBI and scored three runs.

Wes Koenig hit a two-run home run and Taylor Johnson had a solo homer for the Hilltoppers, who dropped to 18-8.

UHV will return to Riverside Stadium for a pair of doubleheaders against Texas-Brownsville on Saturday at 4 p.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m.
