Our readers chose the best of the best recently. What is striking about the results is the realization we have a lot of great amenities in the Crossroads.
We were surprised at the number of awards. Recognized for excellence and being the best went to restaurants, service businesses, professionals, companies, schools and retail businesses, to name a few of the classifications.
We'd like to recap some of the best choices, but by no means are we singling out these examples as better than the others who received "Best of the Best" awards.
We always like to see Fossati's Delicatessen voted best lunch place. The restaurant is the oldest deli in Texas and opened its doors March 3, 1882. The lunch fare there is superb.
And we certainly agree that Riverside Park is our best park, best spot for photos and best picnic spot. The numerous trees in the park offer shade and an atmosphere of tranquility and relaxation through the parks winding roads and picnic areas.
One of our favorites, also, is Mumphord's Place, which was awarded best barbecue smokehouse and best caterer. If you haven't tried Mumphord's brisket, you should for a delectable treat you won't soon forget.
Another Crossroads plus is Citizens Medical Center, which was voted best hospital. Citizens certainly anchors our medical community in a big way. It is comforting to know good care is available right here in our community. Meanwhile, DeTar Healthcare System was voted best place to work. We think happy employees mean happy patients.
Out of Victoria, Christmas in the Park landed the best holiday event in the Crossroads. Every year, the park in Cuero turns into a magical Christmas wonderland. Some 25,000 people visited the display this past year on the self-guided tour.
Of course, what would the Crossroads be like without Gary Moses. Moses won the best local celebrity (that's because he is so ubiquitous -- like Santa Claus), best media personality, best public servant and best volunteer - Gary Moses is a remarkable person who gives an exorbitant amount of his life for others' benefit and is super deserving of these "Best of the Best" awards.
And our high schools shared many "Best of the Best" awards.
The list goes on and on. We congratulate all our winners for being part of our community and giving us the best you can.
