Ten illegal immigrants were being detained at the Goliad County Jail after being captured Thursday by area law enforcement.

About noon, a Department of Public Safety trooper attempted to pull over pickup on Walker Road, said Goliad County Sheriff Kirby Brumby.

The pickup driver tried to evade the trooper, Brumby said, allowing about 20 illegal immigrants to flee into the thick brush along the roadside.

Officials searched throughout the afternoon for the escapees. They found 10 adults.

Those 10 were being detained at the Goliad Sheriff's Office until they are turned over to the U.S. Border Patrol. Officials are still searching for the missing 10 individuals.
