SAN ANTONIO - Victoria East won its Class 4A bi-district series opener against San Antonio Burbank thanks in part to an impressive offensive performance by Trey Thormahlen.

The junior outfielder was 4 for 4 at the plate, including a triple, and scored twice with three RBIs as the Titans finished the game with 13 hits.

Mason Tipton was 2 for 3 with an RBI for East, and John Garcia was 2 for 4.

The Bulldogs scored a run in each of the first two innings, but East responded with a four-run third inning to claim its first lead, 4-2.

Burbank pulled within a run at 5-4 in the fifth, but the Titans clinched the victory with a pair of runs in the sixth.

East sophomore Michael Garcia earned the pitching victory.

Game 2 will be played at 1 p.m. Saturday at Riverside Stadium with Game 3, if necessary, following.
