The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4146 will host an annual awards ceremony Saturday morning.

Humberto Benevides, district commander of the local post, said the event is free and open to the public.

Reyes said he is proud to announce state dignitary Carlos Sustaita, the VFW state quartermaster, as the event's guest speaker.

The ceremony starts at 8 a.m. Saturday at the VFW Post 4146, 2001 Lova Drive, and features a flag presentation, music and a memorial service in honor of local veterans who have died.

The ceremony will also be an opportunity to recognize area award-winners.

Nazareth Academy student Bailey Houck is receiving the Sacred Pin for her winning essay.

Jesse Peterson, an Industrial High School student from Vanderbilt, will be awarded the Voice of Democracy award.

Veterans will also present a teacher of the year award and the annual district awards.

Immediately after the awards, members of the VFW will go into their district meeting, which is closed to the public.
