COLUMBUS, Ga. - IT entered the Association of Independent Institutions softball tournament on an extended winning streak. Saturday's loss meant the University of Houston-Victoria exits the three-day tournament hoping their season will be extended.

The Jaguars allowed two runs in the top of the first to Thomas (Ga.) University, and couldn't recover. Thomas won 4-0 to advance to the championship game against Cal State San Marcos.

A win over Thomas (21-27) would have given the Jaguars (39-8) an invitation to NAIA National Championships.

Instead, they await whether they will earn an at-large berth in the tournament, after losing two straight contests. Before this weekend's tournament, the Jaguars won 13 straights game.

The Jaguars managed to get runners to second in three different innings, but were unable to push any runs across against Thomas pitcher Alexa Fair (6-7), who finished with a five-hit shutout.

Senior Emily Bergstrom (22-5) allowed four runs on six hits in 3 2/3 innings to take the loss for UHV.

The Jaguars had beaten Thomas on Thursday, earning a 4-3 extra inning victory. But a loss Friday to Cal State San Marcos and the loss Saturday ended their run.
