Hallettsville shooting victims remain stable; police continue investigation

Roderick Douglas Axel was arrested Monday in connection with the shooting of two men in Hallettsville.

HALLETTSVILLE - The two men injured in a Monday morning shooting were in stable condition Tuesday night.

Reginald Louis Adams, 37, and Demont O'Neal Adams, 33, both of Hallettsville, were being questioned by Hallettsville police officers at San Antonio's Brooke Army Medical Center, said Hallettsville Police Chief Randal Schlauch.

No new details have emerged about how or why the shooting took place.

Roderick Douglas Axel, 47, of Hallettsville, was arrested in connection with the shooting. Axel was charged with two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

He remained in the Lavaca County jail in lieu of bonds totaling $150,000.

Axel was unarmed when escorted from the 200 block of West Park Street, according to the police report.

When interviewed him at the police department, Axel declined to talk about the incident, according to the report.
