A Ganado woman remained in critical condition Wednesday after a wreck half a mile north of Ganado.
Vanessa Tristan, 27, of Ganado, was driving a silver Chevrolet HHR south on U.S. Highway 59 about half a mile north of Ganado when, for an unknown reason, she drove into the median, which caused her vehicle to roll several times, said Department of Public Safety Trooper Justin Nixon.
Tristan's vehicle landed upright in the northbound lane of U.S. Highway 59 and struck the rear panel on the driver side of a tan Nissan Maxima driven north on the highway by Norma McMillon, 55, of Calhoun, La., about 7:30 p.m., Nixon said.
McMillon and her passenger, William Marshall, 53, of Port O'Connor, were taken to Jackson County Hospital, where they were treated and released, the trooper said.
Tristan was flown to Memorial Hermann hospital in Houston, where a hospital spokesman said Wednesday she remained in critical condition.
The north lane of U.S. Highway 59 was closed for about half an hour while the wreck was being cleaned up and the entire highway was closed while the helicopter landed to transport Tristan.
The wreck is still under investigation and no citations have been issued, Nixon said.
