Cuero Mayor Sara Post Meyer retained her seat Saturday, defeating two challengers including former mayor Randy Saenz.

Meyer tallied 761 votes to 396 for Saenz and 79 for political newcomer Jeff Lucas.

Saenz, who served as mayor from 2008-10, did not run for re-election after his first term, but threw his hat back in the ring this year.

"I greatly appreciate the support of the citizens of Cuero," Meyer said. "I could not have been re-elected without the work of so many."

Meyer has been at the helm during the recent Eagle Ford Shale boom that has seen a growth spurt in Cuero.

"I am looking forward to the next two years," Meyer said. "I feel certain the city council will make sure we create a balance of managing the amenities the city has and filling the needs generated by the growth.

"Our number one allegiance is to the citizens of Cuero," she said.

In other council races, District 3 incumbent Brad Hedrick was re-elected and Doyle Cruz won the District 2 seat.
