Six suspected illegal immigrants fled on foot during a Thursday morning traffic stop.
About 9:20 a.m., a Victoria police officer working under Operation Border Star, pulled over a white Chevrolet pickup that was traveling north near the 9800 block of U.S. Highway 59 on suspicion of having an expired inspection sticker.
In an attempt to avoid apprehension from law enforcement, six Hispanic men fled on foot from the cab and bed of the truck into a densely wooded area alongside the U.S. Highway 59 feeder road, said Victoria police officer Stephen Lang.
Victoria police officers, as well as two Victoria County Sheriff's Office canines, were unable to locate any of the suspects.
The truck, which appeared to be a work truck because of the dishwasher in the back, was registered in Jim Hogg County, but was not listed as being stolen, said Lang.
The pickup was towed from the scene.
The Victoria Police Department is asking anyone who sees any suspicious person in the area to call 911.
