Food service inspections for May 9-16

The Victoria City-County Health Department Environmental Health Division inspects places where food is served in Victoria, DeWitt, Jackson and Calhoun Counties.
In the inspection reports, each violation in the Food Temperature/Time Requirements category is 5 demerits; in the Personnel/Handling/Source Requirements category, 4 demerits; and in the Facility and Equipment Requirements, 3 demerits. Zero is a perfect score, while 100 demerits is the worst possible score.
Each Wednesday, the Advocate publishes inspection results from the previous week. All demerits are reported, but only those in the categories of Food Temperature/Time Requirements and Personnel/Handling/Source Requirements are detailed.
FOOD SERVICE INSPECTIONS FOR WEEK ENDING MAY 18
La Antigua, 737 N. state Highway 35, Port Lavaca. Demerits: 62. Improper cold hold temperature. Reheat cooked foods to 165 degrees within 2 hours. Wash hands before glove use, between tasks and upon entering kitchen. Keep employee drinks below food preparation areas. Cover foods in walk-in cooler. Store raw meat below cooked foods. Date label all ready-to-eat foods with a seven-day, use-by date. Adjust temperature setting on hot water heater. Need to wash hands with soap and paper towels. Need to have soap and paper towels at the hand washing sink. Need pest control to address roaches. Need to educate employees on proper hand washing, time and temperature controls, and proper sanitizing of food contact surfaces. Eight facility or equipment violations.
Beijing Buffet, 339 Calhoun Plaza, Port Lavaca. Demerits: 42. Use hot water to wash hands. Eggs and oysters are not from an approved source. Need to keep oyster tags with the oysters in cooler. Cover food in cooler and freezer. Thawing fish in water directly in the sink needs to be in a container in the sink. Do not stack pans of food on top of each other. Date label prepared food and milk. Keep time on food that is out. Hot water is cut off to the hand sink. Need paper towels at hand sink. Flies and gnats by the mop area. Manager needs to educate employees on good hand washing practices, time and temperature controls, and proper sanitizing. Do not store containers of food on the floor. Six facility or equipment violations.
Texas Outpost, 308 state Highway 72 E., Yorktown. Demerits: 38. Employee drinks need lids and straws. Dispose of outdated medications and soiled ice bags (keep them off the floor). Store raw meat below other food in walk in and other coolers. Work on date labeling food. Keep nozzle draped up at three-compartment sink in meat department area to allow for air gap. Keep items out of hand sink. Address problem with gnats by the three-compartment sink in meat area, as well as roaches. Wipe down droppings on shelves and potato area. Clean the ice machine. Six facility or equipment violations.
Angelica's Mexican Restaurant III, 444 W. Main St., Yorktown. Demerits: 32. Employee drinks need lid and straw. Cover food in walk in. Use gloves when handling ready-to-eat foods. Store raw meat below cooked and ready to eat foods. Date label ready to eat foods. Need paper towels at hand sink. Four facility or equipment violations.
China Inn, 3602 E. Houston Highway, Victoria. Demerits: 28. Cover all foods in walk in cooler. Do not re-use gloves. Store raw meats below produce. Need to date label food in the walk in cooler. Need paper towels at the hand sink. Need to address problem with flies. Need to wipe down storage area shelves. Need to wash, rinse and sanitize all dishes and bowls, clean cabinets in wait staff area. Four facility or equipment violations.
The Texan, 526 W. Main St., Yorktown. Demerits: 27. Designate area for cell phones. Cannot be on preparation tables. Employee drinks need lids and straws and need to be stored away from ice bags. Ice bags need proper labels. Date label deli meats and food in walk in cooler with seven-day use-by date. Hand sink was blocked with boxes in front of it. Need paper towels a the hand sink. Address problem with flies. Five facility or equipment violations.
Country Store and Ice, 252 Highway 72, Yorktown. Demerits: 25. Wash hands before putting gloves on and between tasks. Employees need drinks with lid and straw. Use gloves when handling ready-to-eat foods. Date label ready-to-eat foods. Three facility or equipment violations.
M and M Pinto Bean No. 2, 202 E. Rio Grande St., Victoria. Demerits: 23. Wash hands between tasks, upon entering the kitchen, and before gloves. Avoid using apron to wipe hands. Wear gloves when handling cheese, tortillas and ready to eat foods. Do not fill water pitchers at the hand sink. Clean shelves in back store room and shed. Five facility or equipment violations.
Tacos El Mexicano, 1504 E. Juan Linn St., Victoria. Demerits: 22. Improper cold hold temperature. Wash hands with soap and warm water, rinse and dry with disposable towels. Date label ready-to eat-foods. Need soap and paper towels at back hand sink. Three facility or equipment violations.
Bloomington General Store, 12985 state Highway 185, Bloomington. Demerits: 17. Label ice bags. Date label lunch meat with seven-day use-by date. Need paper towels at hand sink. Clean the ice machine. Three facility or equipment violations.
La Salle's Landing, 2002 Broadway St., Port Lavaca. Demerits: 11. Need hot water had hand washing sink to wash hands properly. Two facility or equipment violations.
H-E-B No. 434, 101 Calhoun Plaza, Port Lavaca. Demerits: 8. Discard strawberries. No hot water available at the sink in bakery.
The Red Apple, 118 S. Church St., Yorktown. Need lid and straw on employee drinks. Keep hot water on in the restroom.
Garcia Snow Cones, 402 N. Market St., Bloomington. Demerits: 7. Use seven-day use-by date on potentially hazardous foods. One facility or equipment violation.

Retama Manor South, 3103 E. Airline Road, Victoria, inspected May 8 with 9 demerits. Re-inspected May 10, with improper cold hold temperature. Do not store any potentially hazardous foods in the refrigerator until it reaches 41 degrees or below. Keep an eye on the refrigerator.
Tacos El Mexicano, 1504 E. Juan Linn St., Victoria, inspected May 4 with 19 demerits. Re-inspected May 11, all violations corrected.
Angelica's Mexican Restaurant III, 444 W. Main St., Yorktown, inspected May 9 with 32 demerits. Re-inspected May 14, most violations corrected. Need to work on hand washing and keeping soap and paper towels at the hand sink.
