Sacred Heart Parish hosting annual spring picnic

Sister Colette Kouba and Father John Peters show off some of the items that will be on the auction block during the annual  Sacred Heart Parish Spring Picnic. The items include an antique, handmade pie safe.

The 130th Sacred Heart Parish Spring Picnic will be held Sunday at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 321 U.S. Highway 77 S. in Hallettsville.

Dinner of country fried chicken, stew, homemade cornbread dressing will be served from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Drive-through plates are available until 1 p.m. Plates are $8 for adults and $4 for children.

The live auction on the main pavilion begins at 1 p.m. Among the auction items are an antique pie safe, Barbie dolls new in the box and handmade quilts. Several cattle will also be on the auction block.

Beginning at noon inside the hall there will be bingo, a cake walk, country store and a religious articles booth.

A memorial prayer service will be held at 1 p.m.

The day also includes music by J&S Playboys from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., and a free dance in the biergarten with Red Ravens and the Jodie Mikula Orchestra from 1 to 9 p.m.

Children's games and rides are also available as well as concessions throughout the day.

A washer pitching tournament begins at 5 p.m.

A new addition to this year's festivities is a guinea pig plop sponsored by Sacred Heart Youth.
