Shiner Catholic Church Spring Picnic features new event

Shiner Catholic Church will hold its 26th annual spring picnic Sunday at the Knights of Columbus Park, 102 S. Avenue G, Shiner.
The weekend kicks off with a new event on Saturday, the Sunset 5K Run. Entry fee is $30. The race will begin at 6:30 p.m.
In addition to the 5K run/walk, the event will feature a 10K run, and a kids run/walk for ages 10 and under.

Outside music will feature Los Kolaches from 6-10 p.m. The historic beer stand will be open with refreshments and food.
A motorcycle run will be held Sunday with registration beginning at 10:30 a.m. Cost is $20 per driver and $15 per passenger. Call 361-772-7614 for more information.
A dinner of stew, fried chicken, sausage and all the trimmings will be served in the KC hall from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. for $8 per plate.
Plates to go will be available at the Shiner American Legion Hall, 3081 alternate U.S. Highway 90 E., from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
A memorial tribute to veterans will be at 11:45 a.m.
Free music in the air-conditioned hall includes accordion music from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., the Shiner Hobo Band from 2 to 4 p.m. and a battle dance with Leroy's Swinging Orchestra and Chris Rybak Band from 4 to 8 p.m. on Sunday.
There will also be music outside the beer stand from 4 to 7 p.m. by Lorelei and Schatzi and then classic top hits by Vic and Bev outside the bingo pavilion from 7 to 11 p.m. The Emotions and Granger Smith will be featured inside the hall from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.
Throughout the day Sunday, there will be a big country auction, country store, hamburgers, hot dogs, cake and plant wheels, bingo, arts and crafts and games for children.
The auction includes a quilt by Janie Cimrhanzl that incorporates T-shirts from the 25 previous spring picnics.
A basketball signed by the San Antonio Spurs is also a part of the auction.
