Brahmas advance on McAda's late heroics

SAN ANTONIO - Once again, it took extra innings to find a winner between Bishop and Hallettsville.

And like Thursday's Region IV-2A semifinal series opener, it was the Brahmas who came out on top.

Reagan McAda came through in the clutch for the second straight game, nailing a grounder to the Bishop shortstop for a fielder's choice that scored Brennan Caraway to give Hallettsville a 5-4 win Saturday and a regional final showdown with Jarrell next week for a shot at a trip to Austin.

A hit and two walks loaded the bases that inning, and it was Kurtis Steffek, in as a pinch runner for Ryan Renken, who beat a throw to second with two outs on the fielder's choice to secure the victory.

McAda finished the game 1 for 5 with an RBI.

The run capped off another long epic for the Brahmas. After playing 10 innings and more than three hours on Thursday with Bishop, the two teams played three hours and 38 minutes on Saturday.

Weston Seay picked up his fourth win of the season after pitching in relief for the Brahmas.

Braden Kahanek was the star of the show for Hallettsville on Saturday, the only one who really hit the ball well for Hallettsville. He was 3 for 5 on Saturday with an RBI and a run scored, lifting him to 5 for 9 in the series.

Renken also made key contributions, going 2 for 4 on Saturday. It was his walk to start the 11th inning that allowed Hallettsville a chance to win.

Nate Kowalik was 1 for 3 with a stolen base, and Carson Schindler was 1 for 5 with an RBI.

The Brahmas move on to face Jarrell, who beat Luling earlier this week. With graduations for both schools on Friday and Saturday, it is likely they will play on Wednesday and Thursday if it's a series, or a one-game playoff on Thursday.

An official location and time have not been set.
