Incumbent Goliad sheriff gains GOP nomination

Incumbent Kirby Brumby beat two challengers in his bid for the Republican Party nomination for Goliad County Sheriff by a considerable margin.

Brumby received 976 votes to challengers Jeffrey D. Oliver's 179 votes and Bill Schaefer's 153, as of 10:30 p.m. Tuesday.

"I'm going to run a clean race in November like I did in the primaries," said Brumby. "

The first-term sheriff said he's proud to have added two deputies on every shift, for their added security and for the community at large.

He will face Democratic nominee Paul San Miguel in the November general election.
