Victoria County Commissioners approved a seven-year tax abatement for a new logistics supplier of construction equipment.

The court also approved a grant for the sheriff's office on Tuesday morning.

Keen Transport Inc. received the abatement after the commissioners voted unanimously for the new business, which sits on 30 acres at the corner of Lone Tree and Burroughsville roads.

The city of Victoria approved a resolution for the abatement in March.

The business will save $262,000 in the seven-year period and will begin paying taxes in-full during the eighth year.

It will handle all the shipping, booking and transportation needs for Caterpillar, its next-door neighbor.

Keen Transport should be operational by June and be fully-operational in 2015 with 25 full-time employees. It will have a capital investment of $15 million.

Commissioners also approved a $705,370 grant, called Operation Stonegarden, which will enhance capability for international border and waterway security.

The two-year grant includes one Chevrolet Tahoe, two drug analyzers, 27-foot patrol boat and fuel and maintenance.
