Victoria Democratic voters elected Incumbent Rena Scherer for their party's nomination for Victoria County tax assessor/collector.

Scherer won the Democratic Party nomination for Victoria County Tax Assessor Collector with a 106-vote margin, in complete but unofficial results announced Tuesday at the Victoria County Elections Office, 111 N. Glass St.

Scherer received 1,372 votes, or 52.01 percent over her opponent, Jane Bernal's 1,266 votes, or 47.99 percent.

Scherer is seeking a sixth term in office. She first came into office in 1993 and has worked for the county for 30 years.

"I'm happy that the ones who went out and voted in the Democratic Primary were there for me," she said. "I still have another election to go in November."

Scherer will face Republican Party nominee Donna Rodriguez in the November general election.

This election received votes from 2,368 voters.

Bernal, assistant chief clerk in the justice of the peace Precinct 1 office, said she has not given up.

Bernal worked at Victoria and Bloomington school districts for 26 years before joining the Precinct 1 justice of the peace office as the assistant chief clerk.

Bernal said, she respects Scherer and her work.

"Now I know what it takes and hopefully in four years I'll be ready," she said. "I live and learn; no hard feelings."

Bernal said she plans to support Scherer in the general election.

"My personal has to be put aside because my party comes first," she said.
