Stage Stores key revenue metric climbs in Oct.

HOUSTON (AP) - Stage Stores said Thursday that its October revenue at stores open at least a year climbed 6.5 percent, handily topping Wall Street's forecast.
Some of the strongest sales were in the cosmetics, home and gifts, junior sportswear, men's and misses sportswear categories.
Analysts surveyed by Thomson Reuters expected the metric to rise 2.8 percent.
This figure is a key indicator of a retailer's health because it excludes results from stores recently opened or closed.
Stage Stores Inc. said that the Midwest, Northeast, South Central and Southwest regions were among the strongest as all regions posted increases in revenue at stores open at least a year.
Total revenue for the four weeks ended Oct. 27 climbed 9.8 percent to $113 million.
Third-quarter revenue at stores open at least a year rose 8.1 percent, with total revenue up 11.1 percent to $371 million.
For the year to date, revenue at stores open at least a year gained 5.3 percent. Total revenue increased 8.2 percent to $1.12 billion.
Stage Stores runs 851 stores in 40 states under the Bealls, Goody's, Palais Royal, Peebles, Stage and Steele's names.
