34.8 percent vote early in Victoria County

More than 2,500 people voted Friday in the final day of early voting.

Election Day is Tuesday.

The 2,559 voters brought the total for in-person voting to 15,290 after two weeks of early voting.

While the turnout was high, it still did not beat the final-day numbers from four years ago when 2,771 people voted. In 2008, 15,874 voted early in person, said George Matthews, Victoria County election administrator.

Another 2,353 people have voted by mail and 83 of the 144 overseas and military ballots have been returned.

Those who requested mailed ballots have until 7 p.m. Tuesday to return the ballots by common or by contract carrier, according to a press release from Matthews' office.

So far, 34.8 percent of the county's 51,492 registered voters have marked a ballot. In 2008, 35.6 percent voted early.

On Election Day, the polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.. The county has 35 polling locations. On Election Day, voters must go to their election precinct polling location. The election precinct number is on the left side of the voter registration card above the voter's name.
