Richard Gunasekera, University of Houston-Victoria professor of biology and director of graduate studies for biological sciences, recently spoke to more than 100 people at Texas A&M University. His lecture, "A Biblical Perspective on the Single Origin of Man," was sponsored by the Texas A&M chapter of Ratio Christi, an organization devoted to the defense of Christianity. Gunasekera discussed accepted scientific evidence on genetics for the single origin of man based on the Human Genome Project, which studies human genetics, and the Out of Africa theory, which argues that all humans have a common ancestor. He is traveling across Texas giving invited lectures from his book "Origins: Perspectives on the Origin of Man and Disease."
Yole Delgado recently was named the September Employee of the Month at the University of Houston-Victoria. She is a senior accounting analyst in the finance department and started working at UHV in 2011. Delgado received a framed certificate and a $50 gift card.
Charles Wartsbaugh of the financial services firm Edward Jones in Victoria recently won the firm's Jim McKenzie Award for his exceptional achievement in building client relationships.
