Former Victoria police chief Bruce Ure is recovering from a heart attack he suffered last week while on a Disney cruise.
Ure said Sunday that he felt fortunate to have received such good care on the cruise ship. He suffered the heart attack at dinner Nov. 4 and was taken off the ship early Nov. 5 via a Mexican Navy tugboat and then a Mexican navy speedboat to a Cancun hospital.
Throughout the ordeal, Ure said, his wife, Valarie and friends were in contact with with Drs. Yusuke Yahagi and John McNeill in Victoria. The Ures plan to remain in Cancun for a few days before returning home. He said he hoped his experience reminded everyone that health problems can strike anyone at any time.
"Right now, we are sitting down in a restaurant after leaving the hospital, watching the sunset," Ure wrote in an email Sunday evening. "Life is good."
