Purchasing a new car this Christmas may bring joy to underprivileged Crossroads children.
Toys for Tots, Mac Haik Victoria and the hit Fox television show, "American Idol," have teamed up this holiday season to collect new toys for children and donate money to the national toy drive effort.
Kevin Janak, Mac Haik's sales manager, said the dealership's "Go Further with Ford" program is not only supplying a monthlong drop-off location for anyone wishing to donate new, unwrapped children's toys. But he said for every new Ford, Lincoln or Hyundai or used car purchased until Christmas Eve, Mac Haik will donate $50.
"We feel there's kids in this community without the opportunity to have a nice Christmas, and we want to help out any way we can," Janak said.
On Thursday, the Toys for Tots effort officially kicked off to the public, and about 25 people visited the store to test drive Ford's sleek new redesign of the 2013 Fusion.
After the test drive, customers are offered a chance to judge an "American Idol" contestant via computer. The judging is digitally recorded and sent to the show's executives for a chance to win a guest spot as a judge on "American Idol" this season.
Customers are also entered to win a 2013 Ford Fusion, Janak said.
Last year, Mac Haik donated $10,660 to Toys for Tots during the 2011 drive, and Janak said this year, he hopes to beat that goal.
"People don't have to test drive a car or buy a car. They can just come in and give a toy," Janak said. "This is something we've done for a few years, and we want to do even better than we did last year."
