Area churches are gathering Wednesday to raise money for a Victoria family that lost everything in a house fire on Oct. 25.
Though Cynthia Garley, owner of the house in the 1300 block of Vogt Road, and her daughter were home when the fire started, no one was injured.
"It was them a few weeks ago, but it could be someone else in the next month," said the Rev. Fred Hobbs, of Mount Nebo Baptist Church. "It is an opportunity for us to continue to pay it forward - that is what the ministry is all about."
Hobbs said the churches are gathering for a worship service in honor of the family and for Thanksgiving. The offering proceeds will go to the family at the end of the night.
Hobbs said the Mount Calvary Missionary Baptist Church, Mount Zion Baptist Church and Gideon Baptist Church will attend, in addition to the possibility of a few other churches.
The wooden house was in flames by the time the Victoria Fire Department and surrounding volunteer departments arrived on scene. The house was a complete loss.
The fire was determined to be accidental by the Victoria County Marshal's Office.
