A 25-year-old Goliad man died Monday in University Hospital in San Antonio after a traffic crash on Farm-to-Market Road 622 on Sunday in Goliad County.

A.J. Ripps was in critical condition late Monday afternoon and died later that evening, a hospital spokeswoman said.

Ripps was traveling west on the farm road when he rolled his 2003 Ford F-250 pickup, said Texas Department of Public Safety Trooper Ruben San Miguel.

The crash took place at 3:16 a.m. near the intersection with Leisure Lane, said the trooper.

Ripps was taken by ambulance to DeTar Hospital Navarro in Victoria before being taken by helicopter to San Antonio.

The wreck remains under investigation, but San Miguel said traveling at an unsafe speed may have been a factor.

Ripps was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the truck, said the trooper.
