For travelers along U.S. Highway 87 North, it's time to tap the brakes.
The Texas Department of Transportation will soon place new speed limit signs between Victoria and Nursery, according to a TxDOT news release.
The speed limit from about the Victoria city limits to Nursery will drop from 70 to 65 mph, while in the Nursery area it drops to 55 mph.
Changes go into effect once signs are in place, and motorists are asked to be aware and observe the new limits.
The update is the result of several requests for a speed study on the highway due to increased traffic volume, development and frequency of traffic accidents, according to the release. The study showed the speed limit could be reduced, according to criteria mandated by state law.
