"Be not wise in thy own eyes."

- Proverbs 3:7

Sometimes, I think I am so smart that I make myself sick.

Yesterday, I decided to be wise today so tomorrow would be easier - not.

Yesterday, I was so smart that since I was dressed in my shorts and T-shirt, I would get a jump start on tomorrow by already loading my car to go fishing. My Best Fishing Friend and I wanted to get an early start on our fishing trip we had planned. So I loaded the car early with everything that the area fishing experts suggested I take.

My little SUV got so excited that it was dancing on its four little wheels, and its grill seemed to be grinning at me. I had to say, "Ho boy, we are not going until tomorrow," and my car finally settled down.

I had a hard time going to sleep last night because I kept trying to decide where I would fish first. I even had my fishing shorts and shirt laid out neatly beside my bed where I could just throw them on and go. Boy, I was wise. I was wise and ready - not.

At half an hour to dawn, my alarm went off. I threw on my shorts and shirt and plopped on my fishing hat and was out the door and into my car in a flash. I backed the car out and was about to pull into the street, and I remembered I had forgotten my purse so I leaped from my car and a strong north wind hit me and made my bare legs turn instantly blue.

It was only then that I looked at my phone and realized it was 41 degrees and winds were 20 miles per hour and the chance of rain was 35 percent. I slowly drove my whining car back into the protection of my garage, and I ran back into my warm house.

I realized that in all of my wisdom, I couldn't outsmart God.

Dear Lord, you are all wise, so why didn't you stop me if you knew it was going to be too cold to go? Oh, I figured it out, I had to realize that I can't outsmart God. You are all wise. I am not.
