There are many different ideas about what a Christian is.

Webster's Dictionary says a Christian is one who believes in Christ.

The Bible tells us in 2 Corinthians 5:17 that it is one who is a new creation and your life changes.

In John 3:7, Jesus said you must be born again.

Spiritual birth gives the life of Christ to you.

Colossians 1:27 says, "Christ in you the hope of glory.

Galatians 2:20 tells us a Christian is one who has been crucified with Christ and the life now lived is Christ living in your life by faith given by Christ.

Second Peter 1:3-4 tells us our life now has God's divine power and nature in us, and the Christian is not performing as a Christian, but is experiencing God's divine nature in all of the Christian's life.

So, Christianity is not church membership, denominational doctrines or performance by humans. It is the very divine life of Christ living in you and through you by Christ's power.

We yield to him as Lord and Savior and yield daily the control of our lives to his Lordship, he is boss, not you, the world or the devil.

I have been told by some they are Christian because they were born in America or they are not so bad a person or live by the golden rule of the Ten Commandments. If you can get heaven by these, why did Christ have to come to this world and die on the cross for your sins?

Galatians 1:8-9 tell us when you follow a gospel that is not the gospel of Jesus Christ you are accursed.

Galatians 3:1 asks the question, "who has bewitched you in following another gospel?"

False gospels give false salvation and a false sense of security of heaven when you die.

In John 14:6, Jesus said that he is the way, the truth, the life and not one will get to heaven except through him. There is no other way, no back door.

The world today has many beliefs, but God says there is only one savior and that is his son, the Lord Jesus Christ.

John 3:16 is the message of God to the world in one state. It says, "For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son that whosoever believes in him should not perish, but have everlasting life."

How do you know you are a Christian? By your life reflecting the life of Christ in your total being.

It is the crucified life of Galatians 2:20. No longer self love, but Christ love ruling your life.

Have you had a miracle of a changed life? Follow Jesus and become his disciple.

The Rev. John Fisher is pastor of First Baptist Church in Point Comfort.
