Five people have been arrested and two more are being searched for after a pursuit of two vehicles ended in bail outs Monday morning.

About 8:30 a.m., a Victoria County Sheriff’s deputy attempted to make a traffic stop on U.S. Highway 59 South.

The vehicle failed to stop and a pursuit began. A vehicle believed to be accompanying the first one also fled, said VCSO Chief Deputy Terry Simons.

The second vehicle drove into Riverside Park where five people were detained.

The first vehicle was abandoned on a private drive off the highway south of Loop 463 and two people fled into the underbrush.

A quantity of narcotics, most likely marijuana, was discovered in that vehicle, Simons said.

The search was continuing as of 11:30 a.m. A Homeland Security helicopter, as well as tracking dogs from the Texas Department of Criminal Justice are assisting in the search.

The amount of drugs seized and the makes and models of the vehicles were not immediately available.

This story will be update as new information is provided.
