Shiner Police Chief Adam Brunkenhoefer has been placed on administrative leave.

Mayor Fred Hilscher said Monday that the chief was placed on leave with pay on Oct. 8. He added that the action was a personnel matter and he could not discuss the circumstances.

"The city council is looking into the matter," Hilscher said. "Other officers are on duty and the police department is continuing to function. There is no threat to the safety of the citizens of Shiner."

The police chief also declined to elaborate on the situation, saying only he hoped it would be resolved soon.
