Oct. 18, 2012 at 5:18 a.m.

A multi-vehicle wreck on U.S. Highway 59 South near Edna closed the southbound lanes for about three hours, said Department of Public Safety Trooper Craig Wycoff.

The wreck was reported at 7:34 p.m. at the Lavaca River Bridge, but no injuries were reported.

The wreck occurred after a pickup hauling a utility trailer had a tire malfunction. The trailer pulled over, but was struck when a pickup following two cars failed to control its speed.

No one has been cited, but Wycoff said the accident remains under investigation.

Three pickups hauling utility trailers were involved, along with a Honda Element and a Kia Rio.
