A Ganado man was pronounced dead at the scene and three others were transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston after a two-vehicle wreck near El Campo at 9:25 a.m. Wednesday.

Arturo Barajas, 51, was pronounced dead by Wharton County Justice of the Peace Timmy Drapela at 10:59 a.m, according to a Department of Public Safety report.

Ricardo Barron, of El Campo; Benito Camarillo, and Felipe Duran, of Ganado, were all listed in critical condition with head and internal injuries, according to the report.

Barajas was driving a 2009 GMC flatbed truck and towing a utility trailer south on Farm-to-Market Road 102 in Wharton County when a 2006 Kenworth truck tractor traveling behind him attempted to pass Barajas on the left, two miles north of Farm-to-Market Road 1161.

Barajas then attempted to turn left, according to the report, and was struck by the truck tractor, driven by Lou Gene Henderson, of El Campo.

Henderson was not injured.

Barajas was listed as an oil field worker in the report.

Barajas was taken to Ganado Funeral Home, where the funeral services are pending.

Trooper Jose Mena is investigating the wreck.
