Van Vleck Leopards upset Boling Bulldogs

On an evening when the Van Vleck Leopards were an almost 20-point underdog, the capitalized on two late fumbles to beat the Boling Bulldogs.
The Leopards won 33-19, marking the team's second win in as many weeks. They, defeated the Tidehaven Tigers the previous week in Van Vleck.
On Friday when the Leopards were on the road in Boling, the teams appeared to be in a chess match the first half - going back and forth.
Boling finally scored on their last possession of the first half with a 49-yard run by quarterback Ryan Moreno with a scamper around his right end, outrunning the Leopards to the end zone.
It took the Bulldogs three plays on 76 yards to score.
The half ended with the 7-0 score.
Van Vleck took the opening kickoff of the second half and were stopped in only three plays by the Bulldog defense.
The Leopards punted the football, but the ball went almost straight up into the air just past the line of scrimmage and took a Van Vleck bounce.
The football hit a Boling player, making it live for anyone to recover.
Van Vleck recovered the ball. From there the team gained momentum.
Two plays later the Leopards scored. Dean Bagby found Marcus Brown on a 53-yard pass reception for the score. The extra point was missed, making the score 7-6 at the 9:55 mark of the third quarter.
Boling bounced back and scored on their next possession with a 38-yard run by running back Eric Goodsen. It took five plays to go 65 yards on this drive.
The Bulldogs missed the extra point, making the score 13-6.
Van Vleck and Boling continued the scoring trends.
The Leopards scored on their ensuing possession at the 4:46 mark of the third quarter on a 14-yard run by Marcus Brown. This drive took seven plays covering 66 yards.
Van Vleck attempted a 2-point conversion to take the lead, but failed. The score was Boling 13 and Van Vleck 12.
The Bulldogs clawed their way back on the next possession on a quick strike. Gooden scored his second touchdown on a 58-yard run. The Bulldogs missed the extra point making the score 19-12.
Undeterred, the Leopards drove the football 8 plays and 49 yards for the next score on an 18-yard run by Trustin Norris. The extra point would fail again leaving the Leopards down by 1 point, 19-18.
Van Vleck recovered a Bulldogs fumble with 11:53 left in the game.
The Leopards sustained a 74-yard drive on 14 plays and scored on quarterback Dean Bagby's 2-yard touchdown run. Bagby then connected with Phillip Wilson on a two-point conversion with 5:05 left in the game to go up 26-19.
Less than a minute later, Van Vleck recovered another Boling fumble and started another drive at the Bulldogs 32-yard line.
Trustin Norris scored the last points of the evening on a 4-yard run after the 6-play, 32-yard drive.
Norris gained 195 yards rushing in the game and scored two touchdowns.
Bagby passed for 109 yards.
Boling's Gooden had 149 yards on 10 carries in the game
Van Vleck now stands at 2-5 on the season and 2-2 in District 13-2A play.
The Leopards will face district leading and state ranked East Bernard, which will be the toughest test on the season so far or the Leopards.
The Leopards will host the Brahmas in Van Vleck with a 7:30 p.m. Friday kickoff.
