A Port Lavaca man was sentenced to 35 years in prison Thursday after pleading guilty to aggravated sexual assault of a child.
Eloy Rodriguez, 28, was arrested on Aug. 9, 2011 by Port Lavaca police officers after Child Protective Services received a report about the abuse.
Rodriguez was living with his victim, Calhoun County Criminal District Attorney Dan W. Heard said.
Heard declined to say how old the victim was because he did not want to cause further trauma.
"It's an awkward situation for all of us," he said.
The Harbor Child Advocacy Center in Port Lavaca videotaped an interview with the victim and forwarded it to investigators. The victim was also examined at Citizens Medical Center in Victoria, according to a news release.
Heard said those actions laid the groundwork for the case.
Rodriguez' attorney Joseph Garza could not be reached for comment.
