Depositing checks just got simpler for Wells Fargo & Co. online banking customers in Texas.
The company on Thursday will introduce Wells Fargo Mobile Deposit, available through the latest version of the Wells Fargo mobile app. The app is available for both Apple and Android-supported devices, according to a company news release.
To make a deposit, customers choose the eligible consumer or business account where they want to deposit their check, enter the check amount and use their smart phone or other mobile device to take a picture of both the front and back of the endorsed check. After they submit their deposit, Wells Fargo sends a confirmation message.
"Instead of making a special trip to a banking store to deposit checks, customers can process checks over their smart phones at any time," said Brian Pearce, senior vice president and head of the Retail Mobile Channel at Wells Fargo's Digital Channels Group. "Our research shows this is one of the most requested new features for mobile customers."
The company is already introducing the deposit services in other states, as well, and expects to make the service available nationwide at year's end.
Checks are not stored on the mobile device. Wells Fargo's Online Security Guarantee provides added protection against unauthorized access to customers' accounts.
