The 26th annual YMCA 2012 Corporate Cup kicked off Thursday with 16 teams competing in the toss ball competition.

Toss Ball is a 6-on-6 game played on a volleyball court where a person from each team tosses the ball to the opposing side. A player is eliminated anytime the ball is thrown out of bounds, is dropped, or touches the net. The last team standing wins the game.

"We're excited to be here," said participant Terry Thomas of Team DuPont F-Unit. "This is fun. This is what it comes down to when a business, a corporation, can come together - it's awesome."

The Corporate Cup is not only a team-building event for the participating organizations, but it is also a big fundraising event for The Victoria YMCA.

The teams each pay either $500 or $600 (if teams want to play golf) to participate with proceeds benefiting the YMCA. Around $200,000 was raised for after-school care scholarships from programming like the Corporate Cup last year, said YMCA Wellness Director Rosalinda Ramirez.

Because of the rain, the opening ceremonies were rescheduled for 7 a.m. Saturday at the Special Events Area of Riverside Park.
