To know downtown is to love it. In my time here in Victoria, I have seen the city's center come to life.
Trying the Olde Victoria at The Oak Room has been on my bucket list. I shrugged off my procrastination jitters and ventured into the skytacular restaurant.
After walking off the elevator in the One O'Connor Plaza, I was like a kid in a candy store, eager to take in the spectacular views of Victoria.
I was blown away by the splendor beneath my eyes, with the historic architecture and cityscape.
One side was a sun-filled room with a beautiful piano with bouquet of flowers.
This venue offered comfortable seating and white tablecloths - quite fancy for lunch. I enjoyed every moment.
The soft jazz music playing in the background soothed me. I glossed over the wine rack, but did not partake. It was lunch time, after all.
Part of me didn't want to leave this culinary haven.
I visited this downtown dig and the patrons were dressed professionally.
The men wore suits and ties, the women were donned shawls and sundresses.
Olde Victoria is a family-owned business that was founded in 1987. The restaurant moved to the 12th floor of the Victoria landmark.
The lunch menu offers reasonably priced entrees, appetizers, and salads.
My friend and I received complimentary warm bread and soft butter, the perfect combination, to curb our midday hunger pains.
It's hard to pass up a mouth-watering steak, but I chose to eat a little lighter with pecan-crusted fried shrimp.
I was impressed with the presentation. The home-style french fries surrounded the breaded shrimp, and the mashed potatoes underneath the pile of deep-fried goodness.
I loved the shrimp's crispy texture. I just wanted more. The fries were hot and not too salty and the mashed potatoes were delectable and smooth to the palette.
I was so proud of myself for being able to finish the meal in one sitting.
My server was pleasant and accommodating. Surprisingly enough, I didn't have many questions because the menu offered rather detailed descriptions listing the ingredients.
I would recommend this place. Next time I will visit to watch the sunset.
