Message from the Bay City Lions Club president
Sept. 19, 2012 at 4:19 a.m.
Welcome to the 67th annual Rice Festival.
The Rice Festival has been a family tradition in Matagorda County since 1941, with the exception of the years 1942-1945 (World War II) and 1961 (Hurricane Carla).
The Rice Festival is the Bay City Lions Club's only fundraiser and is the funding source of what we use to make a better quality of life for those in need.
We also take part in very deserving state and international humanitarian projects through Lions International.
Our logo is two lions looking in either direction, one looking to our proud past, the other looking into our bright future. Our motto is "we serve."
This year we will award more than $15,000 in scholarships to help local students further their education. We are in the third year of a five-year commitment to donate $25,000 to the Boys and Girls Club of Bay City and Matagorda County.
We furnished eye exams and eye exams to needy children. We also provide the opportunity for physically-challenged children to attend the Texas Lions Camp.
As a team, we are able to make a difference in many lives. That is what this event is really about. It is an honor and privilege to serve as the Bay City Lions Club President for 2012-2013.
On behalf of the Bay City Lions Club, I would like to say thank you to all the sponsors, volunteers, participants and Rice Festival attendees for helping us make a difference in Matagorda County and the world.
