Austwell-Tivoli Elementary School and Austwell-Tivoli High School were put on lockdown Monday afternoon by the Refugio County Sheriff's Department.

The schools went locked about 1 p.m., said Austwell-Tivoli Elementary School Principal Stephen Maldonado. A deputy on the scene allowed the school to begin operating under normal conditions again at 2:45 p.m.

"The children were in no danger at any time," Maldonado said.

The details remain unclear about what incident caused the schools to be locked.

Refugio County Sheriff Robert Bolcik did not return repeated calls about the incident.
