Flights from Victoria Regional Airport to Houston Continental officially begin Monday.

Airport Manager Jason Milewski said Sun Air Inc., the new air transportation provider, has online booking available through Orbitz.

He said booking has been a "trial and error" process. Other online booking sites are not showing complete flight schedules.

"It will take a couple of weeks to get things ironed out before a grand opening," Milewski said. "The sooner we can get things up and running, the better it will be."

Tickets range from about $24 to $44.

Victoria Regional Airport has been without commercial air service since Colgan Air pulled out June 30.

"It's exciting to see things happening in the terminal again," Milewski said. "The first aircraft came in Thursday."

Victoria County Judge Don Pozzi said he is pleased the county is able to continue the federal Essential Air Service program.

"It's very important, as far as economic development goes, for Victoria to have air service," Pozzi said. "Four flights a day will be a big help."

Milewski said there is a huge interest locally in getting flight service back up.

"It's always difficult to predict how the market will react," Milewski said. "I think this effort will be overwhelmingly successful."

He attributes that success to the improved flight schedule and increased choices.

"It's a constant work in progress," Milewski said.
