St. Joseph strung together one of its best hitting stretches of the season Tuesday afternoon to beat San Antonio Holy Cross 5-0 in TAPPS 3-4A play.

Head coach Mike Shimek said four of the first five Flyer batters recorded hits in the third inning. The fifth, Adam Konarik, reached on an error. St. Joseph scored four runs in the inning to take control of the game.

Jerry Vasquez threw his second shutout of the season. He allowed three hits and struck out 11, while walking just two batters.

Sam Poland pushed across the first run when he executed a suicide squeeze in the top of the first inning. In the critical third inning, Vasquez, Josh Garcia, Poland and Michael Brawner all record hits. Garcia and Brawner drove in runs on their singles.

St. Joseph (15-9, 5-1) remained within striking distance of district leaders Austin Regents (5-0). The two schools will play in Austin next week.
